Jewish customs surrounding death are predicated on respect for the deceased, and comfort for the bereaved. We are taught that between the time of passing, and burial, the sacred remains must be treated with the utmost dignity and respect.

 

The primary, and most important, custom is the Taharah, spiritual and physical purification of the remains; dressing in white burial garments; gently placing him/her in a simple pine casket. Trained members of the Chesed Shel Emes Society of California perform these functions with the utmost care and respect. Women for women. Men for men. They regard their participation as an act of loving kindness, and a privilege. Not everyone is qualified to participate.

Your funeral home should be informed that you want Taharah for your loved one performed by members of Chesed Shel Emes Society of California
